Overview
A sample retail web application and workshop platform intended as an educational tool for demonstrating how AWS infrastructure and services can be used to build compelling customer experiences for eCommerce, retail, and digital marketing use-cases.
Omnichannel personalization & user engagement
Different Amazon Personalize recommenders are used to power different personalization use cases including user personalization on the homepage, personalized ranking of featured products and search results, related product recommendations on the product detail page, and intelligent user segmentation to target users based on their affinity to product attributes. These recommendations are delivered through multiple user touchpoints including the web/mobile interface, outbound customer engagement using Amazon Pinpoint or Braze, customer data platform integrations with Twilio Segment or mParticle, and a chat interface powered by Amazon Lex.
Partner integrations
There are several AWS partner integrations bundled with the project from ISV partners including Twilio Segment, Amplitude, Braze, mParticle, and more. These integrations must be enabled through a dedicated deployment of the project or by running the partner’s workshop included in the project.
Workshop platform
More than a dozen hands-on workshops are included in the project to facilitate 1:many, 1:1, and self-paced learning experiences for technical personas. To access the workshops, you must deploy the project into an AWS account from GitHub. Workshop Studio access is coming soon.
Architecture
At the heart of the Retail Demo Store is a collection of polyglot microservices hosted in Amazon Elastic Container Service (AWS Fargate) that represent domain constructs such as products, carts, orders, and users as well as services for search and recommendations. While the web user interface is served by Amazon CloudFront and Amazon S3.
The architecture is supported by several managed services including Amazon Cognito, Amazon Pinpoint, Amazon Personalize, and Amazon OpenSearch Service (successor to Amazon Elasticsearch Service). The web user interface is built using the Vue.js framework with AWS Amplify to provide integrations with Cognito for registration/authentication and event streaming to Pinpoint and Personalize (Event Tracker). Finally, AWS CodePipeline is leveraged to demonstrate how AWS development services can be used to orchestrate the build and deployment process with the Retail Demo Store.
